Students just finished writing personal narratives. We looked at some early American biographies in class and diaries written by settlers. We've discussed the importance of stories and how story shapes society. Each of our stories are important and it is up to us to live a narrative worth sharing with others. Students are in the midst of presenting their personal narrative s to the class. They are required to use physical objects to aide in the telling of their narrative.
For the past couple of weeks we've been looking at mythology and oral traditions in Native American culture. Since 11th Grade English is American Literature, my teaching partner (Wil McFarland) and I have decided to move through American History/Literature chronologically so students can see how it all builds on itself. Students wrote their own myth to explain a natural occurrence or mystery in nature. Here are covers a few students made for their myths!
